5 Ways To Eat Granola While Camping

If you are looking for new snacks to take on a trail, camping or just a treat at home, we have you covered. These delicious treats will keep you full and motivated whether you are conquering a new hike, sitting by the fire in your Staheekum slippers or snuggled up at home on a relaxation day.

Traditional Granola: Banana Bread Granola

Ingredients:

¼ cup Sesame Seed

¼ cup Flax Seed

½ cup Green Pumpkin Seeds

½ cup Chopped Walnuts

2 cups Banana Chips, chopped

1/8 teaspoon Salt

1 teaspoon Cinnamon

¼ cup Extra Virgin Olive Oil

¾ cup Honey

¼ cup Pure Maple Syrup

Instructions:

  1. Heat the oven to 350
  2. Combine all ingredients to a large bowl
  3. Cover a cookie sheet with parchment paper and spread the granola mix
  4. Bake for approximately 30 minutes

Granola Trail Mix: Sweet and Salty Granola

Ingredients:

1 1/2 cups gluten free rolled oats

1/2 cup nuts of choice

1/2 cup nut butter of choice

1/2 cup honey

dairy free chocolate chips

1/2 cup salty mix-ins of choice

1/2 cup sweet mix-ins of choice

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 and spray a large baking tray with cooking spray.
  2. In a large bowl, mix oats nut butter and melted honey
  3. Spread evenly on the greased baking tray and bake for 25 minutes
  4. Remove from oven, add half the chocolate chips and mix
  5. Once cool, break up granola pieces and stir through the rest of the chocolate chips and mix ins.

Granola Cups: Breakfast Granola Cups

Ingredients:

Granola cup:

1 1/2 cups granola

1/2 cup sunflower seeds chopped

2 tbsp agave syrup (or maple syrup)

2 heaped tbsp sunflower seed butter 

Pinch of salt

Filling:

1/4 cup sunflower seed butter 

Topping:

1/2 cup chocolate chips 

Instructions:

  1. Combine all ingredients for the granola cups in a mixing bowl and mix well.
  2. Grease a cupcake pan and press the mixture firmly into the cupcake pan
  3. Put a heaped tsp of sunflower seed butter into the center of each granola cup.
  4. Freeze for about 60 min or until firm
  5. Melt chocolate chips in a water bath
  6. Once the chocolate is melted pour it on top of each cup
  7. Store in the fridge until ready to eat

Granola Bars: Apple Pie Granola Bars

Ingredients:

1 Cup quick cook oats

1 Cup rolled oats

2Tbsp chia seeds

1.5 tsp cinnamon

30g melted butter or coconut oil

1 cup apple purée or applesauce

1-2 Tbsp honey or maple syrup (optional)

Instructions:

  1. In a medium bowl, mix the oats, chia seeds and cinnamon
  2. Add the melted butter and apple purée, mix to combine
  3. Line a baking tray
  4. Press the mix into the bottom of the baking dish so that it is an even layer
  5. Bake at 375 for 25 mins, it should be firm to the touch
  6. Cool and slice into squares

Granola Cookies: trail mix cookies

Ingredients:

2 ¼ cups gluten free oats

1/2 teaspoon sea salt

1 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon nutmeg

1/4 cup ground flaxseeds

1/2 cup mashed bananas

1/4 cup + 2 tablespoons organic peanut butter 

1/4 cup maple syrup

2 tablespoons vegan white chocolate chips

2 tablespoons dried cranberries

2 tablespoons chopped pretzels plus extra whole ones for the top

2 tablespoons pepitas/pumpkin seeds or other seeds such as sunflower seeds

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 325
  2. Line a baking sheet
  3. Mix all the dry ingredients together
  4. Add in the wet ingredients in order
  5. Stir for about 30 seconds to incorporate everything, don’t over mix
  6. Form dough firmly into cookies, and place on baking mat
  7. Bake for 12-15 minutes
  8. Allow to cool for 5 minutes
