Staheekum x Natalia Heiser

Spring is one of our favorite times of the year because of new plant growth and slightly warmer temperatures. Earth Day falls on April 22nd and is a good reminder to appreciate the beauty right in front of us. Earth Day is everyday but we want to help bring attention to this holiday so we partnered with Natalia Heiser with Cottonwood Canopy, an artist based in the Pacific Northwest. We’ve been a fan of hers for a few years, even selling some of her mountainous prints on staheekum.com. Natalia pulls inspiration from nature, using clean lines and geometric shapes to create modern designs. We asked her to design a t-shirt for Staheekum to celebrate Earth Day and we couldn’t be happier with the outcome.

We asked Natalia, What does Earth Day mean to you?

"To me Earth Day is a day of appreciation and connection. It's a reminder to look around at what we have in nature and be thankful. It's also a time to see if there are things we are doing in our everyday lives that could be done differently to help the planet. I love being in the mountains or hiking and taking in all the smells and scenery. It's such a gift to be able to enjoy nature in that way and to be inspired by it. Time spent in nature reminds me that the world is bigger than what's going on in my day or in my head. It helps me gain a broader perspective of life and how to care for something other than myself."

Tell us, what was the inspiration behind your art for this shirt?

"While I enjoy drawing very detailed landscapes, it's a different feeling making something small and beautiful and fast. The trees represent the beautiful pines in the PNW and drawing them in a wild and free way captures that wild and free feeling I get from hiking in the mountains. I hope everyone enjoys them."
